90s songs: Peaches – Presidents of the United States of America

The 1990s; they seem, like just five years ago. Life was simple. Most of us didn’t have a care in the world, didn’t have to make plans every weekend. We knew where we’d be every day of the week.

Remember watching TGIF from 8-10 on Fridays and cartoons on Saturday morning? Most kids had it down to a science. During commercials of Boy Meets World (and every other show you watched), you would flip over to MTV because they had the top 20 music video countdown.

You see kids, back in the day there was no Google or YouTube to let you watch videos over and over. You had to hope you timed it just right. It was a good day if you saw your favorite video during the time you watched MTV. Today, we are going to watch “Peaches” by the Presidents of the United States of America and talk about the good-ole days.

The Presidents were a Seattle band. (Fun fact: Seattle just won something called the “Super Bowl”). Also, this song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1996. Instead, Hootie and His Blowfish won that year. Now Hootie does some sort of music called “Country.”

0:15 – Aren’t peaches only grown in Georgia? The drummer looks like he is about to play those drums so hard. Also, those guitars are plugged into the peach box, which leads me to ask: What is the meaning of life? And, if a box of peaches can act as a guitar amp, why has nobody created a twitter parody account called “Box of Peaches Amp?”

0:26 – Must have shot this video before they made it big. The budget: someone’s backyard and a box of peaches. Current cost is at $22 dollars.

0:30 – Dude is playing his guitar sideways. He thinks he is Ben Harper. You know what else happened in 1995? Tupac was convicted on a sexual assault charge and was sentenced to up to 4 1/2 years in prison. That’s why nobody remembers him and everyone remembers the POTUS.

0:43 – We should really question the Seattle public school education. Peaches don’t come from a can. There is a process before that. The peach cans in the trees….hilarious! (well not really)

This song directly communicates to one’s soul if your soul loves peaches, but this music video sucks. Also, Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee got married in 1995, so there’s your other “peaches” reference.

1:04 – The drummer doesn’t even have a full drum set.

2:11 – Oh snap, is that the Ask a Ninja guy? This is probably how he got his start. This guy is gonna double the production cost. Ask Ninja guy!!………isn’t funny.

2:19 –  There are three of them? 3 ninjas kick back. I don’t remember any of this ninja part of the video. I am getting this video and “Lump” video mixed up in my head and also the Gump parody of “Lump.” Isn’t it interesting how everyone knows Weird Al, but can’t remember a lot of people he parodies?

2:51 –  The ninjas might seem like they jump way too high, but after seeing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon we should let it slide.

However, it looks super unrealistic from THESE ninjas. It’s probably because they hate peaches. If you looked up “who hates peaches?” on the Google you’d see this quote:

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.” – Dita Von Teese

I couldn’t have said it better myself. But, many of you maybe asking yourself, “what does The Presidents of the United States, peaches, and ninjas have in common?” The answer is simple, ninjas come from Asia. The Presidents come Seattle, and everyone knows Seattle has tons of Asians. Just look at the Mariners.

The peach is the keystone that holds this all together. In the first century A.D. peaches were domesticated and cultivated  in the Kunlun Shan mountains, located in NorthWest China. That’s why these ninjas want their peaches back from these American pirates who happen to play in a band. They stole part of the motherland.

3:02 – Two dudes have yellow pants, the other dude has jeans, did he not get the yellow pants for video memo?

The Presidents of the United States of America must have made this video long before they released their album, because it sucks the hardest. Most of us have seen homemade high school foreign language class video projects that are better quality than this. Their CD is still great, even though the songs didn’t make much sense. It’s probably because they are from Seattle.
