SNL Recap – Seth MacFarlane

Too busy having a social life to catch SNL on the weekends? Good news, you don’t need to change your lifestyle and you don’t need to invest in a DVR. So go ahead and live your party-rock caveman lifestyle because we are here to recap each episode and show you the top sketches that you missed.

After losing Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg last season, it looked like the cast was going to be decimated with rumors swirling of Jason Sudeikis and Bill Hader possibly leaving also. Luckily, everyone else is back with the addition of some new cast members.

The most noticable change this season is adding Jay Pharoah to the regular lineup and also taking over President Obama from Fred Armisen. As you can see in his first sketch as the President, this was the right move.

Seth MacFarlane (Creator of Family Guy) opened the season as host and was terrific. I would recommend watching the entire episode for those that have time, but for those that only want the highlights, I will post the must see videos below. His monologue isn’t necessarily a must see if you are familiar with Seth, but for those of you who aren’t, I would recommend watching to see how talented he is.

Sneaky Good Sketch – “First Date” This sketch came after Weekend Update and before the second musical act, in what I refer to as the “hit or miss” section of the show. They seem to take chances here with some of the sketches they put on so you never know how it’s going to be. Of the “hit or miss” sketches, this one was definitely the best. (although all of them were pretty good in my opinion)

Best Quote:

Best Commercial – An SNL recap wouldn’t be complete without a best commercial. This ad for the Obama campaign was pretty good:

Best Sketch– Bill Hader learning puppetry as a dishonorably discharged soldier? Of course this wins best sketch of the episode. Check it out:

Other recommended sketches to watch if you have time:

Lids sketch featuring Psy

Eastwood and Chair (Spoof of Clint Eastwood’s speech at GOP Convention)

Seth MacFarlane as Ryan Lochte

Next week: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mumford and Sons
